WA news LIVE: Police investigate vicious Ellenbrook group attack caught on camera

Translate

Police are investigating a vicious brawl at a park in Ellenbrook that was filmed and widely distributed on social media.

The confronting vision shows a boy being savagely attacked by a group of other boys, who punch and kick him, before one brandishes a large knife.

Scenes from the violent footage posted to social media of a group attack in Ellenbrook. At one point, a boy can be seen brandishing a large knife (right).

At one point, the group demand the boy strip off his clothes as the bashing continues.

It is understood the footage was filmed on Saturday at Coolamon Oval, and the boy at the centre of the attack was later taken to hospital.

However a WA Police spokesperson told 9News Perth that while police were aware of the incident and investigating, no formal complaint had been made.

The proliferation of the footage on social media also spurred debate about Labor’s “post and boast” legislation, which has stalled in the upper house, with Police Minister Reece Whitby laying the blame at the feet of the opposition and Greens for the delay.

Opposition Leader Basil Zempilas accused the government of “sitting on their hands” for not bringing the legislation forward.

The Greens have previously raised concerns about the legislation’s stifling effect on protests.

Here’s what’s happening elsewhere today:

Good morning readers, and welcome to our live news blog for Thursday, November 5.

Making headlines today is news from our courts, where the murder trial of a Perth man began on Wednesday.

Clarence Jalloh was fresh out of prison, smoking up to 10 bongs a day and living at a “drug house” in Balga around the time of the alleged murder of Mauwa “Melanie” Kizenga, WA’s Supreme Court heard.

Mauwa ‘Melanie’ Kizenga was walking with her cousin when she was attacked.

Prosecutors alleged he simply spotted Kizenga walking in the opposite direction on Walderton Avenue about 8pm on March 16, 2024, when he attacked her.
