With extensive experience playing video games, he covers all forms of gaming content at Screen Rant, from breaking news to the latest fan theories. Most-played games range from Clair Obscur to Civ to Elden Ring to Halo 2 and beyond.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 fans have been waiting on pins and needles for an official announcement on the franchise's next game and/or sequel. While Sandfall Interactive's Guillaume Broche has mentioned the studio's current projects vaguely in various conversations since E33's launch, details about what's next for Clair Obscur remain tightly under wraps given its incredible success and expectations being at an all-time high for the follow-up.

There's no question that Clair Obscur's heart-wrenching and emotional storyline is a major contributor to the game's stratospheric success, and arguably no moment in the entire game hits harder than the loss of Gustave at the end of the first act. Fans have long been wondering if Gustave could possibly return in the next game in some way, though this is largely hopium considering there's no indication of Sandfall's plans.

However, Sandfall is officially bringing back Gustave to the Clair Obscur franchise in a brand-new release alongside three other iconic members of the Expedition 33 crew, releasing in March 2027.

Gustave is officially returning to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in 2027, although his latest appearance won't be part of a new game or story expansion. Developer Sandfall Interactive has partnered with Makeship for a new collection of officially licensed plush collectibles, bringing back the beloved protagonist alongside three other recognizable characters from the acclaimed RPG.

The new collection features Gustave, Maelle, Lune, and Renoir, each receiving their own limited-edition plush inspired by their appearance in Expedition 33. All four collectibles are available to pre-order through Makeship's official Sandfall Interactive storefront, with the campaign launching on November 6, 2026.

Gustave is arguably the biggest attraction of the lineup, particularly given his heartbreaking fate during the game's story. The engineer/heartthrob serves as Expedition 33's original protagonist, setting out on a seemingly impossible mission to defeat the Paintress and save Lumière's citizens. His unexpected fate remains one of the game's most devastating moments, and fans will be happy to see him return, even if it's just in collectible form.

He's joined by his foster sister Maelle, another beloved character, as well as Lune, the Expedition's knowledgeable cartographer and elemental mage, along with Renoir, voiced by the legendary Andy Serkis.

Each collectible is priced at $29.99, meaning fans interested in collecting the complete four-character lineup can purchase the set for roughly $120 before shipping and any taxes. Makeship also offers the option of purchasing individual characters, allowing fans to pick their favorites without committing to the entire collection.

As for availability, pre-orders are open now, with the collectibles currently expected to begin shipping on March 25, 2027. That date is an estimated shipping window rather than guaranteed delivery, so buyers should anticipate receiving their orders sometime afterward.

While Gustave's return isn't the kind of major story development or official prequel/sequel announcement some Clair Obscur fans might be hoping for, the new Makeship collaboration offers another opportunity to celebrate the characters who helped make Expedition 33 such a memorable experience.
