Anil Kapoor recalls shooting for 'Tezaab' at Mannat, later Shah Rukh Khan bought it: 'We've been friends for many years, I felt he would become a big star'

Actor Anil Kapoor recently looked back at his long-standing friendship with Shah Rukh Khan and recalled meeting the superstar before his Bollywood debut. Shah Rukh began his career on television in the late 1980s and made his big-screen debut with 'Deewana' in 1992.

During an episode of Star Plus’ reality show 'India Ke Top 1%', Anil also revealed that he had shot for his 1988 film 'Tezaab' at the property that would later become Shah Rukh’s iconic residence, Mannat.During the episode, Anil was interacting with contestants about how they would spend the prize money if they won Rs 1 crore. One contestant said she would like to buy a house similar to Shah Rukh’s Mannat, prompting the actor to share some memories of his association with the superstar.Recalling their first meeting, Anil said, “Shah Rukh sahab and I have been very close friends for many years. He had come to meet me while I was shooting for Benaam Badshah. When I saw him and looked into his eyes, I felt that he would become a very big star. That is where our relationship began, and over time, our friendship grew.”Anil also spoke about Shah Rukh’s purchase of Mannat and revealed that he had filmed at the property before it became the actor’s home.

He said, “I remember him buying Mannat right before my eyes. I had also shot for Tezaab at that property, before it became his home.”Shah Rukh bought the sea-facing bungalow at Bandra’s Bandstand in 2000. The property is currently undergoing renovation, following which the Khan family temporarily moved out of the residence last year. Before owning Mannat, Shah Rukh lived in a flat with his friends after moving to Mumbai in 1991.

Recalling those days, Anil said, “We used to meet on Carter Road, where he had a flat. He, too, dreamt of owning a grand, sea-facing bungalow, and he fulfilled that dream.”The two actors have previously shared screen space in the 1995 film 'Trimurti', which failed to make an impact at the box office. On the work front, Anil Kapoor is set to reunite with Shah Rukh Khan in the upcoming film 'King'. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film is scheduled to release in theatres on December 24. It also features Deepika Padukone,

Suhana Khan

, Rani Mukerji, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat and Abhishek Bachchan, among others.
