Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke marked his return to the Sevilla spotlight in style, scoring his first goal of the season in their impressive 3-1 victory over Athletic Club at San Mamés on Saturday.

Ejuke came off the bench to score Sevilla’s second goal as the visitors secured back-to-back victories to maintain their perfect start to the new LaLiga campaign.

His goal was especially important given the uncertainty about his future during pre-season.

The Nigerian winger was left out of Sevilla’s training camp in the Netherlands as the club worked on his situation and explored the possibility of a departure. He subsequently trained separately from the squad before returning to group sessions ahead of the start of the league season.

However, his recent performances have given him a fresh opportunity to prove himself under new manager Luis García Plaza, and Ejuke responded with an important contribution at San Mamés.

After helping Sevilla claim another three points, the Nigerian reflected on the result and praised the squad’s unity.

“We’re happy with the game. Six points in two games and a good team spirit. We’re already thinking about the next one,” Ejuke told the club’s website.

The winger also stressed that his priority is to remain available and contribute to the team whenever he is given the opportunity.

“I always try to be available to help the team in any way I can. In the two games we’ve played here, I’ve been able to help the team, and I’m very happy about that. I wanted to play my game, stay focused, and give it my all,” he said.

Ejuke reiterated that his focus remains firmly on helping Sevilla, regardless of the circumstances surrounding his role in the team.

“This is why I’m here. I want to help the team, regardless of the situation.

“The couple of times we’ve been here, we have been privileged to have very good games. I’m just happy that I could contribute to the team’s goal. This is very important to me.”

The Nigerian also revealed his determination to remain prepared whenever his opportunity arrives.

“I just want to try to be available. I think this is the most important thing, and also play my game, which I always do whenever I get the opportunity.

“I just want to stay focused and do my best every time.”

Sevilla produced an impressive all-round performance to secure the victory, with Oso opening the scoring before Ejuke doubled their advantage. Isaac Romero added Sevilla’s third goal, while Aitor Paredes pulled one back for Athletic Club.

For the Super Eagles winger, the message is now clear: he is ready to take his opportunity and make his presence count whenever Sevilla call on him.
