Fleetwood Town vs Arsenal LIVE: Carabao Cup result and latest updates after penalty shootout

Fleetwood beat Arsenal 5-3 on penalties in one of the greatest upsets in Carabao Cup history

PA

Arsenal have been dumped out of the Carabao Cup at the fourth round, losing to Fleetwood Town on penalties. Bruno Guimaraes saw his spot-kick saved by Jay Lynch before Fleetwood’s teenage defender Conor Haughey lashed home an emphatic penalty to spark a pitch invasion at Highbury Stadium as Fleetwood triumphed 5-3 in one of the greatest upsets in the competition’s history.

Arsenal, who overcame Ipswich in round three, were overwhelming favourites to progress from this tie as they looked to go one step better after defeat in last season's final. Max Dowman was handed a start for a much changed Gunners side as llan Meslier made his competitive debut, with Mikel Arteta clearly keeping one eye on Sunday's Premier League showdown with Liverpool.

Fleetwood, meanwhile, have sent four teams packing - conceding just one goal in the proccess - to reach the quarter-final of the competition for the first time in the club's history and it’s safe to say the party will continue long into the night.
