53 foreigners caught driving without valid licences in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Fifty-three foreigners were found driving or riding vehicles without valid documents or licences during a five-day police operation in the Johor Baru Utara district

The operation, conducted from Sept 13 to yesterday, also saw the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division seize 53 vehicles used by the foreigners.

Johor Baru Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said the integrated operation targeted foreign drivers and motorcyclists who violated traffic laws and regulations.

"During the operation, 103 summonses were issued for various traffic offences under road traffic laws.

"Among the main offences detected were 53 cases under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving without a valid licence.

"Another 44 offences were recorded under Section 23(1) of the same Act involving Motor Vehicle Licences, or road tax, while six involved other offences under the Road Traffic Rules," he said in a statement today.

Authorities have previously said such enforcement was aimed at ensuring road safety for all users.

Radin Ramlan said police also seized the vehicles under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"The seizures involved 47 motorcycles, four cars, a lorry and a multi-purpose vehicle," he said.
