Silent Witness star Emilia Fox's popular detective drama confirms UK return date with first look

If you want a detective drama set under the sunny skies of Italy, then Signora Volpe may be the series for you. And luckily for you, the popular show is returning very soon with its third season.

The mystery series sees Emilia Fox portray Sylvia Fox, a former spy who worked for British intelligence. Wishing to enjoy her retirement, she moves to the Italian town of Panicale, but soon finds herself solving a variety of local crimes.

After airing its first two seasons across 2022 and 2024, it has been confirmed that the series will return to Acorn TV on 5 October. It will also come to U&Drama next year, with the three episodes being 90 minutes in length.

In addition to the release date announcement, we also have a first-look at the season. This time around, a local winery owner is found dead in mysterious circumstances, while a prominent power couple have a scandal as a young man is found dead in their bed.

As per the logline, the third season picks up as Sylvia is "mentally and physically recovered" from her abduction, though there are many "lingering questions" about the entire situation.

"She is settling back into the rhythm of her new life in Italy and her relationship with Carabinieri captain Giovanni Riva continues to deepen," reads the synopsis, with Sylvia soon being drawn into a slew of "complex investigations".

"As each mystery hits closer to home and forces Sylvia to confront uncomfortable truths, she suffers a devastating loss, and someone from her past comes back to haunt her," continues the logline.

In addition to Fox, Giovanni Cirfiera also returns to the series as he reprises his role as Capitano Riva. Jamie Bamber, the actor who recently joined EastEnders as Ned Roper, will play Sylvia's ex-husband Adam.

Created by Rachel Cuperman and Sally Griffiths, Signora Volpe has proven to be popular with viewers since its premiere, with IMDb currently reporting a solid user rating of 7.2/10 from 4800 logs.

"No blood & guts. No sad, dark heroes or heroines. Just good characters, multiple mysteries, comic relief and hints of romance! And, a strong feminine lead, family and Italy! I'm hoping for lots more episodes and season," wrote one user.

Signora Volpe season 3 premieres on Acorn TV on 5 October, before coming to U&Drama in 2027.
