CONI’s executive committee has unanimously approved placing the FIGC under special administration, with Giovanni Malago named commissioner of the federation he was elected to lead.
According to Tuttosport, all 15 voting members of the Giunta backed the proposal at Tuesday’s meeting, which began at 13:00. The decision still needs ratifying by CONI’s National Council at 14:00, but that is considered a formality.
The outcome follows Monday’s mediation between CONI president Luciano Buonfiglio and Malago, who met again on Tuesday morning before the vote.

Malago to stay at FIGC helm as commissioner
Malago was elected FIGC president on June 22 with 68.58 per cent of the vote. CONI argued the election was invalid because he was not a registered member of the federation when he stood as a candidate.
Buonfiglio had initially planned to take the commissioner role himself. With the Giunta split and Serie A firmly behind Malago, however, he offered a compromise to avoid a damaging vote.
He will now run the federation in the interim and is expected to call fresh elections within around three months. He will be able to stand again, this time as a registered member.
