Joel Kinnaman's New Prime Video Detective Crime Series Gets Major Filming & Release Update

Translate

EXCLUSIVE: Joel Kinnaman offers a big update on Bishop, his upcoming detective series.

Kinnaman has been a mainstay on the small screen since taking on the role of Ed Baldwin in the Apple TV sci-fi drama For All Mankind, which debuted in November 2019 as one of the streamer's first originals. He's recently taken a step back from the alternate history saga to focus on other projects, appearing alongside Kerry Washington and Rooney Mara in the twisty mystery Imperfect Women and leading the TNT drama High Value Target: The Hunt for Saddam.

Kinnaman will soon step into the titular role in Prime Video's Bishop, which he discussed in an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan about High Value Target. The actor said he was filming scenes for the forthcoming crime drama and praised co-stars John Malkovich and Urich Thomsen, whom he described as a “Danish giant,” among others. In the quote below, Kinnaman adds that he has two days of filming left:

Kinnaman: I don't know. I just came from shooting two scenes with my incredible father in the show, John Malkovich, who's just like the GOAT. And then Jennifer Jason Leigh is playing my aunt. So it's one beautifully fucked-up little family. And then Ulrich Thomsen, the Danish giant, is in it as well. And it's a really, really fun cast. And yeah, it's going very well. We're very excited. Actually, I have two days left.

Kinnaman adds that he is “very excited” about Bishop, which is filming in Montreal. The series focuses on Bishop Graves (Kinnaman), a brilliant homicide detective with the scars to prove it. He has to put all his skills to the test when a killer begins hunting the wealthy class in San Francisco. The killer is elusive and has developed a loyal following. Graves becomes convinced that these murders connect back to San Francisco's most powerful man: his father, Lincoln Graves, who is played by Malkovich.

As of now, there is no release date for Bishop. But with filming winding down, it's possible that this next detective drama is eyeing a 2027 release date.
