Saudi coalition vows retaliation after Riyadh airport attack kills 12, injures 309

Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen has vowed a firm response to the attack on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport, calling it a war crime. The attack killed 12 people and injured 309 others, according to Saudi authorities.According to Saudi Gazette, coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al-Maliki said the October 10 attack targeted a passenger terminal at the airport, causing civilian casualties. He blamed Yemen's Houthi militia for the strike, describing it as a violation of international humanitarian law and the customary rules of war.Al-Maliki added that the coalition's Joint Forces Command would respond firmly in accordance with international humanitarian law.The fatalities included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals and one national each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan, Saudi Gazette reported, citing the General Authority of Civil Aviation.Several of the injured remained in critical condition and were receiving treatment in hospitals. The attack also caused property damage and forced a temporary suspension of airport operations while authorities assessed the damage and checked the safety of facilities.

The Houthis have not publicly claimed responsibility for the October 10 attack on Riyadh airport, despite the Saudi-led coalition blaming the group for the strike. The Iran-backed rebels have warned commercial airlines to avoid Saudi airspace, describing it as a military zone amid escalating hostilities. The warning came as Saudi Arabia intensified its military campaign against Houthi positions in Yemen, raising concerns over further attacks on civilian infrastructure and a wider regional escalation. The renewed fighting has heightened regional tensions, with Saudi Arabia stepping up military support for the Yemeni government and the Houthis continuing to pose a threat to shipping and security across the region.
