SASSA reminder: Older persons grant payment dates for September 2026

SASSA confirms that it will pay Older Persons Grants on Wednesday, 2 September, opening the September 2026 payment cycle. The agency releases this date as part of its standard three-day payment schedule, which also covers Disability Grants on 03 September and Children’s Grants on 4 September.

SASSA warns that beneficiaries whose grants are under review will not receive payment on the usual date. Instead, the agency processes payments for these pensioners on Monday, 7 September 2026, once they meet the review requirements. SASSA stresses that this fourth-day payment does not apply generally; it exists specifically for pensioners caught up in the review process.

Pensioners urged to stay informed

SASSA encourages pensioners who miss their payment on 2 September to avoid panicking or rushing to SASSA offices. The agency explains that an SMS notification triggers most reviews and acknowledges that outdated contact details sometimes prevent the SMS from reaching beneficiaries. To close this gap, SASSA introduces a WhatsApp enquiry line (082 601 0111), which lets pensioners check their review or life-certification status without visiting an office.

SASSA also urges pensioners to keep their phone numbers, marital status, and financial details up to date, as it uses these details to communicate about grants. Pensioners attending a review must bring an ID document, proof of income, bank statements, and proof of residence. SASSA warns that failure to respond to a review request may result in a grant being suspended or lapsed. Finally, the agency cautions pensioners against misinformation on social media and reminds them to rely only on official channels for payment updates.
