From starring in huge franchises like Fast & Furious, The Expendables, The Meg, and more, to one-off action entries like A Working Man, Statham has done a lot for the genre. Now, a new 2026 movie led by the actor that ended up failing in theaters is going through that same process. After starring in Shelter in January, an action thriller that is currently Prime Video's 8th most-watched movie worldwide, according to FlixPatrol, Statham led Mutiny in August, and the film is now a streaming hit.

Jason Statham's Mutiny Is Officially No. 1 On Streaming

At the time of writing, Mutiny stands as the most-watched movie on Amazon VOD in the United States. Mutiny arrived in theaters on August 21, going on to finish its theatrical run with a negative box office total of just $27 million against its $40 million budget. After bombing at the box office, it took Mutiny less than a month to arrive on the usual digital storefronts. Now, Statham's latest action thriller ranks higher than quite a few major movies on Amazon VOD's chart, and it did so instantly, as the film was recently released on the platform on September 8.

Right now, Statham's Mutiny ranks higher than the two major horror movie sensations of the year, Backrooms and Obsession, as well as films like the original Practical Magic, Pixar's Toy Story 5, Milly Alcock's Supergirl, Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day, Sydney Sweeney's The Housemaid, and many more. Mutiny follows Statham as Cole Reed, a former police officer who now works as the head of security for a billionaire, who becomes a stowaway on the cargo ship that the men who killed his employer get on. There, he uncovers a human trafficking ring, which leads to a lot of action as he dismantles the operation.

The Film's Success Makes Up For Its Box Office Failure

Based on its reported budget of $27 million, Mutiny needed to finish between $54 million and $67.5 million just to break even. However, with the action thriller's box office landing at $40 million, it failed to even meet the lower end of that projection. Mutiny's negative theatrical performance was heavily impacted by the fact that the full movie was accidentally leaked on Prime Video a few days before Statham's action movie was set to be released in theaters, staying up for hours. Now, that negative box office and leak are left behind in favor of Mutiny's newfound Amazon VOD success.
