Hayley Williams is finally opening up about her ex-partner, Chad Gilbert, days after his passing. She remembered New Found Glory for his influence and legacy days after he left for his heavenly abode after battling brain cancer.

For the unversed, the two got together around 2007, stayed together for almost 10 years, and filed for divorce in 2017.

Taking to her Instagram account, the musician remembered her ex, Gilbert, who had been diagnosed with brain cancer and had been dealing with the stage 4 diagnosis since February this year. She shared, “I have not known what to say or if it’s appropriate. But I feel sure now that I want to [because] life is made of the paths we cross and the reasons we cross them are infinite.

Chad is indeed a legend in the scene, and my time connected to him taught me a lot.

He introduced me to people who continue to shape my life in beautiful ways and to music and culture that have made life a lot richer.”She continued, “There isn’t much that hasn’t already been said about what he contributed to the musical world a lot of us grew up in. His influence and attitude guided the genre forward. His passion for fostering the community was inspiring and sticks with me.

I will forever be grateful that from him I gained a deeper understanding and a reverence for the community and the culture of hardcore. Sending love and my sympathies to his family, NFG fam, and all his friends.

”Williams and Gilbert were together since 2007 and officially called it off in July 2017. They announced the news online through a social media statement, which read, “We’ve grown up together, and we’ve been beside each other through a lot of goodness and a lot of challenges.”

It was never made clear as to why the two separated; however, over the years, Williams has commented on how she had always felt guilty over how her and Gilbert’s relationship had started.
