A new Stephen King-approved vampire story is getting a TV adaptation.

King has asserted himself as the master of horror adaptations, owing to his prolific and influential books, but the author is always willing to pay it forward. On his social media account, the genre scribe regularly makes a point to recommend new shows and stories that may otherwise fly under the radar. One such effusive recommendation is now being translated for the screen.

Deadline reports that Paramount Television Studios is adaptating Coffin Moon into a television series. The novel is written by author Keith Rosson, and it takes place in the winter of 1975, specifically unfolding in Oregon. It follows a veteran and his adopted niece as they hunt, and get hunted by, the vampire that slaughtered their family.

Coffin Moon was released in September 2025, with King praising it as “mind-blowingly good” and declaring it “the best modern vampire story ever.” The writing and producing duo of Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue, whose past credits include A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and Painkiller, will be the ones developing and showrunning the adaptation. Rosson will be a consulting producer.

The news comes just as Random House prepares to debut Coffin Moon ​​​​​​in paperback. It marks a high-profile endeavor for Rosson, whose other books include Crone and Fever House, both of which King lauded, in addition to The Devil by Name. The adaptation is a collaboration between Paramount Television Studios and Iron Ocean, the production banner of actor Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple.

The news of Coffin Moon's adaptation similarly arrives at an interesting time for Paramount Television Studios, considering that the path has cleared for the merger between Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount. Industry watchers have discussed whether the merger will impact the company's respective TV studios, which also include Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios.
