Sofia Vergara looks giddy as she's seen for first time since ex Joe Manganiello's memoir attacks

Sofia Vergara was pictured in public for the first time since the release of her ex-husband Joe Manganiello's memoir Bloodlines, in which he painted a grim portrait of her conduct as he dealt with illness during their marriage.

The 54-year-old actress went casual in Los Angeles Wednesday, donning a gray retro Nirvana graphic T-shirt tucked into a pair of roomy blue jeans with black strappy sandals.

The Barranquilla, Colombia-born star wore a pair of sunglasses and carried a gray suede Bottega Veneta handbag on the outing.

Vergara, who played Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the ABC series Modern Family, smiled as she was seen leaving a spa on the weekday in Southern California, and did not address questions from photographers asking her about claims her former spouse made in his book.

Vergara has been in the headlines following the release of Manganiello's book earlier this month, in which he made a number of startling claims about their past relationship.

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Vergara for further comment on the story.

In his book, Manganiello, whose divorce with Vergara was announced in July of 2023 following a seven-year marriage, said that the Hollywood marriage became 'devoid of any emotionality whatsoever' as he dealt with an autoimmune disease.

Manganiello said in his memoir that his illness began worsening in the wake of his 2015 wedding to Vergara.

The actor said he dealt with symptoms such as abdominal pain, an ulcerated digestive tract, fevers, rashes, headaches and fatigue.

Manganiello said he subsequently lost around 60 pounds and had to have a portion of his intestine taken out in an emergency surgical procedure in 2016.

The actor said in the book that resultant pain from the health problems led to him breaking a 13-year stretch of sobriety by taking substances such as pain medication and marijuana after the medication he had been prescribed did not tamp down his suffering.

Manganiello said in the book that amid the ailment, he dealt with suicidal ideations, and had to give away a gun he owned 'because [he] kept thinking about' self-harming.

He said that Vergara provided little emotional support during the troubled time, as she 'refused to hug him even when he begged' and mocked him over a chihuahua he adopted named Bubbles to help buoy his spirits.

Another issue that remains a point of contention for the former couple was the prospects of welcoming children, as Vergara said she was not interested in having children, while Manganiello was.

Vergara told the newspaper El País in January of 2024 that she 'didn’t want to be an old mom,' feeling it was 'not fair' to the child.

Vergara, who is mother to son Manolo, 35, from her past marriage to Joe Gonzalez, told the publication that she 'had a son at 19' and was 'ready to be a grandmother, not a mother.'

Manganiello pushed back on those claims in a July 2024 Men's Journal piece, saying: 'There’s been a lot said in the press about me wanting a family. That’s simply not true.'

He said he and Vergara 'did try to have a family for the first year and a half.'

He added: 'For seven years I thought I was going to be dead the next week. The world has opened back up to me.'
