Back in form, Isak in “a really good place” at Liverpool

Alexander Isak is in a “really good place” after scoring three goals in four appearances so far in his second season at Liverpool, Premier League club’s manager Andoni Iraola said during a press conference on Friday.

The 26-year-old Swedish striker had joined Liverpool from Newcastle United 12 months ago for £125 million (USD 168 million) but his debut campaign was marred with injuries and poor form and he could only manage four goals in all competitions.

“I think he’s doing well. I’m happy with the improvements he’s doing game to game,” Iraola, who left Bournemouth and replaced Arne Slot as Liverpool chief ahead of this season, told reporters on Friday.

“Physically, he’s in a really good place. I think he moves with confidence and technically we know he is very good.

“He is understanding better what we need from the number nine position.”

Isak, who has been in the starting lineup in all three Premier League games as well as the Champions League opener, feels the same.

“Firstly, really good that the season has started again, obviously you miss it being away,” Isak told Liverpool’s website.

“I’m feeling good with the pre-season and the start of the season as well, scoring a couple of goals. It’s just about keeping this rhythm.

“I feel good, I feel like I’m in a good place. With the team as well, we’re getting better and better. We want to keep this rhythm.”

Liverpool, unbeaten in four games across competitions in this season, will face Fulham in a Premier League clash at Anfield on Saturday.
