Two security operatives reportedly killed in fresh Plateau attack
JOS: At least two security operatives have reportedly been killed, while several others were injured during a renewed attack on communities in Jol District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attackers also reportedly carted away the firearms of the slain security personnel.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when suspected armed attackers stormed Tanjol and Tarai communities in the area and opened fire on residents.
Sources in the community said the attackers invaded the two communities at about 2:30 p.m., prompting security personnel in the area to respond.
The operatives reportedly encountered fierce resistance from the attackers, resulting in a gun battle that lasted several minutes.
Sources from the local government said information available indicated that at least two security operatives were killed during the encounter, while their firearms were reportedly taken away by the attackers.
Some residents were also reportedly injured in the attack, while one civilian was said to be missing.
A resident of the area, Mr Jerry Chollom, who confirmed the development, said the incident had created fear and tension among residents, particularly those in communities around Jol.
Chollom said residents were worried about the safety of their lives and property, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities in the area.
Efforts to obtain reactions from the security agencies were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
