Prabowo, El-Sisi call for de-escalation in Middle East conflict

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called for immediate Middle East de-escalation, warning that expanding conflict threatens civilian lives and global economic stability.
"Regarding the situation in the Middle East, we expressed deep concern over the escalation of the conflict," Subianto said during a joint press statement at Merdeka Palace on Sunday.
"We continue to advocate for de-escalation, restraint and respect for sovereignty and international law."
The bilateral talks in Jakarta took place against a backdrop of mounting regional security crises, including heavy clashes between Houthi forces and coalition troops near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait, as well as a strike on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport on Saturday that killed 12 people and injured over 300.
Subianto emphasized that resolving these crises requires strict adherence to diplomacy and the UN Charter to prevent broader economic fallout.
"Our view is that any escalation will have a highly detrimental impact on civilian safety and global stability, especially the global economy," Subianto stated.
Addressing the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, both leaders condemned ongoing military operations and human rights violations, calling for sustained humanitarian relief and reconstruction in Gaza.
"We are fully committed to supporting the Palestinian people's struggle for self-determination and to live in peace," Subianto declared, reaffirming Indonesia's backing for a two-state solution alongside Cairo.
