Police major, two suspects killed in Pagadian gun buy-bust ops

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — A police intelligence officer and two suspects were killed during a buy-bust operation against loose firearms in Pagadian City in the wee hours of Sunday, Aug. 23.

Authorities identified the slain officer as 35-year-old Maj. Aiman Khuzaimah Pantaran, an intelligence officer of the Pagadian City Police Station and a resident of Barangay Tiguma here.

Pantaran led the operation at around 12:15 a.m. in Purok Malipayon, Barangay Dao, Pagadian City, targeting individuals allegedly engaged in the illegal possession and sale of firearms.

During the transaction, the two suspects sensed they were dealing with police operatives and opened fire, triggering a shootout. 

Pantaran sustained a gunshot wound in the upper chest near the armpit, while the suspects were also hit during the exchange.

The wounded officer was rushed to the Mendero Medical Center, arriving at 12:20 a.m. Despite emergency intervention, attending physician Dr. Alfaro Danilo declared him dead at 12:50 a.m.

Police secured and cordoned off the area to preserve evidence.

The remains of the two suspects were brought to a funeral home here, while Pantaran’s remains were turned over to his family in Barangay Tiguma. /am
