Teen accused of injuring Kuching teacher no longer active student

KUALA LUMPUR: The teenager accused of injuring a teacher at an international school in Kuching, Sarawak, this morning is no longer an active student at the institution.
In a statement yesterday, the school said the student was in police custody pending further investigations.
It said the case was being investigated by police and the school would continue to cooperate fully with the relevant authorities.
"The injured teacher was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment. At this stage, the teacher is recovering and has not sustained critical injuries.
"The school deeply appreciates our teacher's courage and composure during the incident and wishes them a smooth recovery," the statement said.
The school said it had immediately activated its emergency response protocols following the incident, with teachers and staff promptly alerting the police and ambulance services.
Students in the affected classroom were safely evacuated, and no other injuries were reported.
As a precaution, classes were dismissed early on police advice, while parents were promptly notified to pick up their children.
The school confirmed that it would reopen on Thursday, subject to clearance from the relevant authorities.
It said safety protocols were being reviewed and security measures strengthened.
"Effective immediately, three auxiliary police personnel will be stationed on the school grounds, and appropriate security checks will be conducted at entry points.
"The school is also reviewing more comprehensive long-term security measures for the campus," it said.
The school added that its senior leadership team would hold a student assembly to explain the incident, reassure students and address their concerns, including by providing counselling support.
It urged the public not to speculate, circulate unverified information or spread rumours that could interfere with investigations.
"We also ask that the privacy of those involved be respected while the relevant authorities carry out their duties," it said.
The school also expressed its appreciation to teachers, staff and students for their swift response and professionalism in helping safeguard the school community during the incident.
Earlier, media reports said a 16-year-old male student at an international school had recorded a video before a teacher attempted to wrest a sharp object from him this morning.
A video purportedly recorded by the student before the incident has also circulated on social media, drawing widespread attention. However, the contents and actual purpose of the recording remain under investigation.
