Flooding, power outages, over 400 canceled flights across US Northeast due to nor'easter storm

The US National Weather Service said the strong nor'easter will bring coastal flooding, rip currents, strong wind gusts and heavy rain to the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions through Monday.

A strong nor'easter hitting the US East Coast from Washington, DC, to Maine this weekend forced airlines to cancel over 400 flights and knocked out power to more than 100,000 homes and businesses at one point on Saturday.

More than 73,000 homes and businesses remained without power in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania as of 9:37 p.m. ET (0137 GMT) on Saturday, according to power outage tracker PowerOutage.com.

New York and Connecticut each had more than 20,000 without power. Four states - Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey - had more than 100,000 combined outages earlier in the day.

The 'nor'easter' brought floods, canceled flights

NJ.com reported floods in areas of New Jersey from Bergen County in the north down to Cape May County at the state's southern tip, with voluntary evacuations in some Jersey Shore communities. MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford announced that rock band AC/DC's Friday concert was postponed until October 2.

Flight tracker FlightAware said 445 flights on Saturday involving US airports had been canceled and 3,016 flights delayed as of 9:50 p.m.

The US National Weather Service said the strong nor'easter will bring coastal flooding, rip currents, strong wind gusts and heavy rain to the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions through Monday.

In addition the governors of New York and New Jersey on Friday declared states of emergency in counties expected to see the worst of the storm, including New York City. Connecticut's governor activated the state's Emergency Operations Center.
