Matt Damon and Christopher Nolan's epic that's nearly three hours long is soaring up streaming charts, and it's not The Odyssey. Damon and Nolan are no strangers to collaborating together, with Damon having starred in a number of movies made by the director. This includes his starring role in The Odyssey, but it's not his only one. He also starred in 2023's Oppenheimer as Lieutenant General Leslie Groves Jr., the military director of the Manhattan Project, who worked closely with the titular character on creating the atomic bomb.

But there's another Nolan movie that Damon had a crucial role in, one that's still considered a modern classic to this day: Interstellar. Released in 2014, the movie focuses on Earth in a dystopian future where famine has spread across the planet. The protagonist, Joseph "Coop" Cooper, is played by Matthew McConaughey, a former NASA pilot contacted by the government for a space-faring mission to help find a new home for humanity. Damon portrays Dr. Mann, an astronaut stranded on an ice planet during another NASA mission of the same caliber.

Now, Nolan and Damon's Interstellar has become a major force on streaming, having set an official course on Apple TV's Top 10 to deliver its story to a wide audience. According to data from November 3, 2026, Interstellar is now sitting at Number 9 on Apple TV in the United States. The movie's success comes after the massive box office and critical success of The Odyssey, which was not only acclaimed by critics and viewers, but also earned $1.821 billion at the global box office against a $250 million budget.

As for Interstellar, the movie is considered one of Nolan's best, becoming a commercial success quickly following its release. The movie earned $782.9 million against a $165 million budget, while also getting plenty of critical praise at the same time. It was nominated five times at the Oscars that year, winning for Best Visual Effects in the process. Following its release, the movie has maintained an important role within wide-scale film culture, especially in the case of Nolan's larger film catalog.

The Sci-Fi Epic's Resurgence Comes At The Perfect Time

The sci-fi movie is coming back at a perfect time, with Nolan and Damon's relationship onscreen only continuing to prove itself a vital part of the industry. The Odyssey is set to be released on both digital and physical on November 17, 2026, finally bringing the acclaimed movie home. It will join the rest of Nolan's catalog at home, ending a record-breaking run in theaters. The success of Interstellar on Apple TV is reflective of this, showcasing the investment in all his movies, no matter when they came out.

Question 1 of 3

With Interstellar performing so well on streaming, it seems like Nolan's movies are bound to never leave the cultural eye, especially given how good all his films since then have remained. It's unclear if he'll collaborate with Damon again for a future project, but, as far as the existing ones go, they've clearly been a vital part of film history, especially in the modern era.
