Prabowo inaugurates Jakarta's Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT line

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated the Jakarta Light Rail Transit (LRT) Kelapa Gading-Manggarai line at Manggarai Station on Wednesday, marking a major milestone in Indonesia’s ongoing push to modernize its capital's transit network.
"In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful—this afternoon, Wednesday, September 16, 2026… I hereby inaugurate the Jakarta LRT Kelapa Gading-Manggarai line," President Prabowo announced in a ceremony broadcast live on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
Highlighting the new line as a symbol of “national transportation transformation”, the President emphasized that Jakarta has evolved into a global metropolitan area supporting a population of 42 million people—with the local government demonstrating its capacity to maintain safe, democratic, and orderly urban governance.
Reflecting on Indonesia’s development, Prabowo noted that the nation continues to make steady progress.
He remarked that five to ten years ago, few anticipated Indonesia would possess a fully integrated mass transit system connecting conventional rail, the LRT, and the MRT networks.
To further enhance urban mobility, Prabowo announced the government’s plan to develop public housing projects directly adjacent to these integrated transit hubs.
The ceremony concluded with President Prabowo pulling a ceremonial LRT lever, officially opening the line for its upcoming public trials before full commercial operations commence.
The Kelapa Gading-Manggarai line is part of the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B project, stretching approximately 12.2 kilometers. Construction of the route is now complete, and the infrastructure has entered its testing phase ahead of full commercial operation.
As part of the rollout, limited trial runs were conducted on the Manggarai-Velodrome section from September 10 to September 16, 2026—accommodating invited guests, local representatives, institutions, community groups, and journalists.
Following this phase, public trial operations for registered passengers will run from September 17 through October 2, 2026, operating daily between 09:00 and 16:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed earlier that supporting infrastructure connecting LRT stations to Transjakarta BRT routes and other transit modes is fully prepared to ensure seamless passenger connectivity.
