King Charles's goddaughter India Hicks has revealed her son Wesley has got engaged to his girlfriend Dylan Patterson, four months after the death of her beloved mother, the late Queen's former lady-in-waiting, Lady Pamela Hicks.

The former model and designer, 59, who was a bridesmaid at Charles and Princess Diana's wedding, has four biological children with her husband, businessman David Flint Wood, 65.

Marine technician Wesley, 29, became their fifth child when they fostered him after his mother died of breast cancer when he was eleven.

India announced the happy news of his engagement on Instagram on Wednesday as she welcomed his bride-to-be into the family.

Sharing a group family portrait featuring Wesley and his new fiancee Dylan, 28, India wrote: 'What exciting news this week. Wesley got down on one knee (good lad) and asked his most wonderful girlfriend to marry him and thank God she said YES.'

She added: 'How happy we are to have you join our family, Dylan. Here's to sharing all the happy times, and holding each other close through sad ones too.'

Dylan commented: 'Couldn't be more excited to not only have the best fiancé, but also the best future in-laws.'

Other pictures India posted show Wesley and Dylan together on a city street, with his arm around her as she carried a bouquet of pink flowers, and spending time with family.

India's children with David also include sons Felix, 29, Amory, 27, and Conrad, 23, and daughter Domino, 18.

She has previously spoken about how Wesley became part of the family following the tragic death of his mother, Lynne Cleare, in the Bahamas when he was a boy.

India first met Lynne, who worked as a waitress on Harbour Island, when they were both pregnant.

Their sons grew up together, attending the same school, and Wesley was a regular visitor to India's family home from the age of two.

His biological father, whom India previously described as absent during his childhood, asked her to look after Wesley following Lynne's funeral. She became his legal guardian.

India has recalled that Wesley arrived at the family's home with all his belongings in a plastic bin liner, including a few treasured photographs of his mother.

She has also revealed that Wesley initially chose to sleep on a camp bed on the floor of her eldest son Felix's bedroom, rather than have a room of his own, and remained there for around five years because it was where he felt most secure.

Discussing the decision to take him in, India has said: 'I feel blessed and honored that Wesley has chosen us.'

She has also described Wesley, whom she referred to as her foster son, as 'one of the greatest blessings of my life'.

Wesley's bride-to-be Dylan is a travel adviser who runs Pink Palmetto Travel Club, arranging personalised holidays, luxury hotel stays and trips for families and groups.

Originally from Palmetto, Florida, she is now based in New York and previously worked in fashion marketing and project management.

India's beloved mother Lady Pamela, one of the last surviving figures from the inner circle of Queen Elizabeth II, died in June aged 97.

India paid an emotional tribute to her on Instagram at the time, writing: 'I know grief will be unavoidable, lurking around waiting for me, but today I am simply grateful that she was my Mother.'

She has said that although her mother's voice is now absent, 'her presence remains woven through our lives, in our values, our stories, our memories and our children.'

Lady Pamela was a bridesmaid at the Queen's wedding to Prince Philip in 1947 and later served as her lady-in-waiting.

She also accompanied the then Princess Elizabeth to Kenya in 1952, when news arrived of the death of King George VI and Elizabeth became Queen.

Following her death, Buckingham Palace said King Charles was 'greatly saddened' and praised her 'warmth, wit and perspicacity'.

A first cousin of Prince Philip, Lady Pamela was also the daughter of Lord Louis Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India and King Charles's great-uncle, who was killed by an IRA bomb in 1979.

India and husband David tied the knot in an Oxfordshire church in 2021 after more than 25 years together, with Lady Pamela and all five of their children present for the occasion.
