Park Hoon-jung’s ‘Tristes Tropiques’ Sells To Well Go USA For North America; Swift For France

Korean sales outfit Finecut has sold Park Hoon-jung’s action noir Tristes Tropiques to several key territories, including North America, where it has been acquired by Well Go USA.
The film, which is scheduled for Korean theatrical release on November 25, has also gone to Swift Distribution for French-speaking territories; Alfa Pictures for Spain and Andorra; Blue Swan Entertainment for Italy, and CaiChang International for Taiwan.
Well Go USA has acquired previous Park Hoon-jung films for North America, including The Witch film series and The Childe. The company’s President and CEO Doris Pfardrescher said: “We’re thrilled to continue our relationship with Park Hoon-jung. Tristes Tropiques takes his signature blend of style, emotion, and hard-hitting action to a whole new level.”
Didier Costet, President and CEO of Swift Distribution, said: “We are delighted to announce the acquisition of Tristes Tropiques, an exciting new cinematic journey.”
The latest deals add to previously announced sales to Izagur Media (Mongolia); Media4Fun (Poland); Multivision India (Indian subcontinent); PT Prima Cinema Multimedia (Indonesia); and Splendid Film (Germany, Austria and Switzerland).
Tristes Tropiques has recently been winning awards on the genre festival circuit, including the Silver Raven Award in the International Competition at Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival earlier this year, followed by the Grand Prix Nouveau Genre Canal+ at the L’Étrange Festival in Paris in September. Recently, it was also selected as the closing film of the London Korean Film Festival.
The film follows a group of young assassins trained by Master, the absolute ruler of a tropical rainforest. When Master is found dead and the identity of his killer remains a mystery, the assassins struggle with mutual distrust.
The cast includes Lee Sin-young (Rebound), Park Yu-rim (Drive My Car), Kim Myung-min (Your Honor) and Park Hae-soo (Squid Game), alongside Taiwanese actors Austin Lin (96 Minutes), Chen Yi-Wen (The Pig, The Snake And The Pigeon) and Wang Po-Chieh (Eye Of The Storm).
Produced by Park’s own Gold Moon Pictures and co-produced by Studio&New, the film is backed by Mindmark Inc, a creative content studio under Korea’s Shinsegae Group.
