Here’s who Kaizer Chiefs will face in the CAF Confederation Cup

Kaizer Chiefs’ opponents for the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round have officially been confirmed.

Fernando da Cruz’s side will face Zambian outfit Red Arrows, with the first and second legs set to take place in October.

Received a bye

Kaizer Chiefs were among the seeded teams and therefore received a bye through the first preliminary round, alongside continental heavyweights such as Al Ahly and Raja Casablanca.

Red Arrows, meanwhile, booked their place in the second preliminary round in convincing fashion.

The Zambian side entered Sunday’s second leg against Madagascar’s Elgeco Plus with a 2-0 advantage from the first meeting. They showed no signs of easing off in the return fixture, securing another 2-0 victory.

Ackim Mumba was the star of the show, scoring both goals as Red Arrows completed a comprehensive 4-0 aggregate victory.

Build momentum

That result means Kaizer Chiefs now know exactly what stands between them and a place in the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

CAF has confirmed that the second preliminary round will be played over the weekend of 16 to 18 October, with the return legs scheduled for the following weekend.

For Kaizer Chiefs, the continental campaign provides another opportunity to build momentum under Da Cruz as they look to compete on multiple fronts this season.

The Soweto giants will be expected to navigate the two-legged tie successfully, but Red Arrows have already demonstrated that they are capable of producing strong performances on the road.

Two South Africa sides

Meanwhile, fellow South African club Durban City are also involved in the competition.

Durban City completed a 3-1 aggregate win over Burundi side Rukinzo FC to join Amakhosi in the second preliminary round of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
