BAD news for millions of SASSA grant recipients in October

Millions of South African social grant beneficiaries will have to wait until after the first weekend of October before receiving their SASSA grants.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that older persons will be the first major group paid, with their grants scheduled for Friday, 2 October.

Beneficiaries receiving disability and children’s grants will only receive their payments the following week.

SASSA October payment dates

SASSA’s October 2026 payment schedule is:

  • Older Persons Grant: Friday, 2 October
  • Disability Grant: Monday, 5 October
  • Children’s Grants: Tuesday, 6 October
  • Remaining/exception payments: Wednesday, 7 October

The staggered payment system is used to manage demand and help ensure that payments are processed smoothly.

However, because the first payment date falls on a Friday, most beneficiaries will only receive their grants after the first weekend of the month.

Grant amounts

The current grant amounts include:

  • Old Age, Disability and Care Dependency Grants: R2 400
  • War Veterans Grant: R2 420
  • Foster Care Grant: R1 290
  • Child Support Grant: R580
  • Grant-in-Aid: R580
  • SRD Grant: R370

Beneficiaries are reminded that they do not need to collect their money immediately on the payment date. Once the grant has been paid into a beneficiary’s account, the funds remain available.

SASSA has encouraged beneficiaries to plan around their designated payment dates and avoid unnecessary trips to payment points before their grants are due.
