Lekha Washington drops FIRST POST after Imran Khan’s FRRO deportation notice to leave India by October 28, shares detention van selfie amid Kiran Rao and Saba Azad's reaction

Lekha Washington has shared a selfie with boyfriend Imran Khan taken inside a detention van, marking her first social media post since the actor received a notice directing him to leave India by October 28.

The post comes amid the ongoing controversy over Imran’s detention during a Mumbai protest and the subsequent notice issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).

Filmmaker Kiran Rao and actor Saba Azad have also reacted to the development.

Lekha Washington shares selfie with Imran Khan from detention van

Lekha Washington has broken her silence on social media after Imran Khan received an FRRO notice asking him to leave India by October 28. The actor and designer posted a selfie with Imran taken inside the detention van after the couple was detained during a protest in Mumbai earlier this month.

Sharing the picture on Instagram, Lekha captioned it with a series of heart-hands emojis. Imran’s cousin, actor Zayn Marie Khan, who was also detained alongside them, responded to the post with several heart emojis.

The photograph revisits the incident that brought Imran into the spotlight after he joined a demonstration at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10. The actor, who is a US citizen and holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, was detained during the protest and released later that day.

Kiran Rao and Saba Azad react to Imran Khan’s FRRO notice

Lekha’s post follows reactions from filmmaker Kiran Rao and actor Saba Azad to the notice directing Imran to leave the country.Kiran responded to a social media post about the development on her Instagram Stories, questioning the action with the remark, “Wah, now it’s Mumbai police?” She also reshared a post highlighting that Imran had spent most of his life in India, having studied, worked, built relationships and pursued his career here.Actor Saba Azad also expressed her disapproval of the notice, writing, “What? This is bulls**t.”The reactions came after the FRRO issued the notice following Imran’s participation in the protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Imran Khan to challenge FRRO notice in the Bombay High Court

Imran is preparing to challenge the notice before the Bombay High Court. According to reports, his legal team has moved to contest the directive, which requires him to leave India by October 28.

The notice reportedly alleges that the actor contravened provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, by participating in the demonstration. His legal team is challenging the action, with the case expected to examine the legal basis for the directive and the circumstances surrounding the protest.

Imran’s participation in the demonstration came amid a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

He was briefly detained during the gathering before being released. The FRRO notice followed the incident, placing the actor’s immediate stay in India at the centre of a legal dispute. The matter is now set to be addressed through legal proceedings, and the outcome of the challenge will determine the next steps in the case.

Imran Khan’s early life in the US and Mumbai

Imran Khan was born in the United States to Nuzhat Khan and Anil Pal, who were living there at the time.

His parents later separated, and he moved to Mumbai with his mother when he was around three years old. The actor grew up in India and went on to build a career in Hindi cinema, making his debut as a leading actor with ‘Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na’ in 2008. He subsequently appeared in films such as ‘I Hate Luv Storys’, ‘Delhi Belly’, ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ and ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’.

Imran Khan's comeback film

The actor is set to make his long-awaited acting comeback with the upcoming romantic drama 'Adhure Hum Adhure Tum', co-starring Bhumi Pednekar. Slated for an OTT release, the film marks Imran's return to the screen after a sabbatical following his 2015 release Katti Batti. Directed by Danish Aslam, who previously collaborated with Imran on the hit romantic comedy Break Ke Baad, the project generated significant buzz among fans eager to see the actor back in a romantic lead role.

However, recent developments surrounding a deportation notice issued to Imran have raised uncertainty regarding the film's promotional timeline and eventual streaming schedule.
