David De Gea’s future at Fiorentina remains uncertain despite his return to form, with his salary a key factor in the club’s thinking.
According to Corriere dello Sport, via FirenzeViola, the former Manchester United goalkeeper has rediscovered his best level after a difficult start to the season, producing decisive displays against Pisa and Napoli, and he is set to start again at Genoa on Saturday.
De Gea, who turns 36 on November 7, is under contract until June 2028 and has an excellent relationship with the club. It is far from certain, however, that he will see out the deal.

Fiorentina weigh up De Gea succession plan
The Viola already considered parting ways with him last summer. That was partly because of his €3m net annual salary, and partly because of the emergence of Tommaso Martinelli, who has been earmarked as his successor.
The decision now rests with sporting director Fabio Paratici. Over the coming months he must choose between delaying the handover again and starting the post-De Gea era next summer, which would also ease the pressure on Fiorentina’s wage bill.
De Gea joined Fiorentina in 2024, ending more than a year without a club after leaving Old Trafford.
