FM, Sudanese finance minister discuss reconstruction efforts

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held talks on Sunday, August 23, 2026, with Sudanese Finance and Economic Planning Minister Gibril Ibrahim to discuss ways aimed at to expanding economic cooperation and supporting reconstruction efforts in Sudan.

The Ministers discussed cooperation between Egyptian and Sudanese institutions on financial policies, as well as measures to increase trade and investment and remove obstacles affecting bilateral commerce.

Talks also addressed cooperation on rehabilitating Sudan’s infrastructure, particularly roads and transport, as well as the medical and pharmaceutical sectors.

Abdelatty said that Egypt’s experience and capabilities in these fields could contribute to Sudan’s early recovery and reconstruction.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also briefed Ibrahim on preparations for the first Africa Business Summit, to be held as part of the Alamein Forum for Business in Africa.

He encouraged Sudanese participation, saying the event could provide opportunities for greater economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting also addressed developments in Sudan. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions, while rejecting attempts to divide the country or establish parallel entities.

He called for a Sudanese-led political settlement that preserves the country’s resources and meets the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security and stability.
