Boys arrested after Sydney bottle shop rampage

Translate

Five boys have been arrested after an alleged rampage at a south-west Sydney bottle shop.

CCTV footage from inside the bottle shop on Holdsworth Drive at Narellan Vale captured the alleged rampage about 6pm on Saturday.

A group of teenagers, some with their faces covered, are seen fighting with shop staff, picking up cases of pre-mixed drinks and other bottles of alcohol and fleeing the store.

A man working at the store, Santiago Wu, was allegedly assaulted as he tried to stop the teens. One 13-year-old was detained at the scene and charged with larceny. He has been granted conditional bail and is due to face a children’s court on November 2. He was also charged with larceny for a separate alleged theft at a business in Mount Annan earlier in the year.

Wu, whose mother owns the shop, told Nine News about $1000 worth of alcohol was allegedly stolen or destroyed during the incident.

“I couldn’t believe that happening here, and they are so young,” he said.

Three other teens and a 12-year-old were arrested on Monday and Tuesday. One of them, also 13, has been charged with larceny, multiple assault offences and disguising his face with intent to commit an indictable offence. He is due to face a children’s court on October 19.

The other boys, aged 15 and 16, were dealt with under the Young Offenders Act, along with the 12-year-old.
