LTFRB summons jeepney operator in viral Quezon City counterflow video

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a show-cause order (SCO) against the operator of a jeepney caught on video counterflowing along Quezon City.
In a statement released Saturday, the LTFRB said it ordered the operator to explain in writing why the vehicle’s franchise should not be suspended or revoked.
Among the violations cited were the failure to ensure passenger safety and comfort as required under the conditions for the issuance of a Certificate of Public Convenience and the employment of a reckless driver.

A viral video uploaded in June showed a passenger jeepney counterflowing illegally along Quirino Highway in Quezon City.
“The issuance of the SCO was based on the monitoring of the LTFRB social media team of the viral video of the counterflow of the passenger jeepney along Quirino Highway in Quezon City,” the LTFRB said.
Acting LTFRB chair Greg Pua said the incident had endangered other motorists, adding that the agency would not tolerate such actions on the road.
“Let this investigation serve as a strong message to the PUV drivers that the LTFRB will not tolerate this kind of behavior on the road. The public can be assured of our quick action on this matter,” Pua said. /das
