MACC lodges police report against Muhyiddin's lawyer over alleged document disclosure

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer has lodged a police report over the alleged disclosure of a classified document linked to former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's corruption trial involving the Jana Wibawa programme.

According to the police report, an investigating officer informed the MACC officer that the document had allegedly been disclosed by Muhyiddin's lawyer, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, during proceedings at the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday.

The report stated that at about 6pm, Amer Hamzah produced a document containing a copy of a recorded conversation involving Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad, who has been repeatedly mentioned during the trial.

Adam, a former Segambut Bersatu deputy division chief, has featured in testimony over his alleged role in helping businessmen secure projects under the Jana Wibawa programme.

The High Court was previously told that businessman Lian Tan Chuan had sought Adam's help to secure a Jana Wibawa project and that Adam had allegedly instructed him to prepare a letter of interest addressed to Muhyiddin, who was then prime minister.

He has yet to testify in Muhyiddin's trial. The prosecution has said he would be offered to the defence as a witness.

The police report stated that the recording was kept pursuant to Section 53(3) of the MACC Act and had been classified as a secret and restricted document under an MACC directive dated May 5, 2023.

The police report was lodged to enable police to investigate the alleged disclosure of the document to the public.

Muhyiddin, 79, has become the second Malaysian prime minister to sit in the dock facing corruption charges, after Datuk Seri Najib Razak, whose cases linked to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal had dominated the courts for years.

He allegedly abused his position to solicit RM232.5 million for Bersatu and faces three money laundering charges involving RM200 million deposited into two bank accounts.
