Translate

PRAI: A 45-year-old woman was seriously injured when two cars collided on the Penang Bridge heading towards Prai early today, causing one of the vehicles to overturn.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director John Sagun Francis said the department received an emergency call at 3.49am about the accident at Km1.3 of the bridge.

He said the woman was trapped in the driver's seat of a Toyota Hilux when rescuers arrived at 4.02am.

"Firefighters managed to extricate the woman safely before handing her over to the Malaysian Red Crescent for transport to hospital," he said.

He said the woman sustained serious injuries to her head, legs and hands.

"Her husband, 47, who was also in the Hilux, suffered minor injuries to his head, legs and hands.

"The 38-year-old driver of the overturned Honda BR-V sustained minor head injuries," he added.

A total of 19 firefighters from the Prai and Jalan Perak fire and rescue stations took part in the operation, which ended at 5.37am.
