Firm aquires Delta land for feed plant
Olam Agri has secured 99.99 hectares of land in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, for a proposed animal feed production plant aimed at reducing the South-South and South-East’s dependence on supplies from the South-West.
The Delta State Government presented the Certificate of Occupancy to the company at Government House, Asaba, on Wednesday, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori saying the investment would create jobs and support agricultural development.
The company’s Managing Director, Amit Agarwal, said Olam Agri chose the two regions for its next feed production facility because of the supply gap in the areas.
He said the company already operated animal feed plants in the South-West but wanted to bring production closer to customers in the South-South and South-East.
Agarwal thanked the state government for supporting the proposed investment and said the company looked forward to working with the government, the traditional institution and the host community to implement the project.

Speaking at the ceremony, Oborevwori said the land allocation reflected his administration’s commitment to attracting investors and expanding agricultural opportunities in the state.
“This occasion reflects our commitment to following due process in all our dealings. As a government, we are determined to create an enabling environment for investors to thrive and for businesses to grow,” the governor said.
The governor also commended the traditional institution and other stakeholders for helping to maintain the peace needed for investments.
The Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Obi Ifechukwudi Okonjo II, urged Olam Agri to ensure that residents of the host community benefited from the project.
He called on the company to provide employment, internship placements, skills development and technology transfer opportunities for the community.
