Gachagua Denies DCP Endorsement Of Edwin Sifuna For 2027

Translate

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has refuted claims that the party has endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as its 2027 presidential candidate, clarifying that recent comments by his deputy, Cleophas Malala, reflect personal opinion rather than official policy.

Speaking on KTN News on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Gachagua emphasized that Malala lacks the authority to issue policy declarations on behalf of the party.

“First and foremost, the deputy party leader is not the spokesman of DCP. The spokesman of DCP is the secretary-general or the party leader,” Gachagua said. “So that is not the party position. That is his personal opinion, and he’s allowed.”

Gachagua noted that while Malala has been actively lobbying him to back Sifuna, such efforts are routine internal discussions as opposition factions evaluate coalition strategies ahead of the August 2027 General Election.

The clarification follows Malala’s public declaration that DCP had settled on Sifuna for the top ticket and intended to persuade Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka to support the lineup.
