PM Modi inaugurates global conference on environment, climate dynamics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated a two-day international conference on “The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics”, organised by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.The conference, being held on September 19 and 20, brings together judges, environmental experts, senior government officials and representatives of various environmental and judicial institutions from India and abroad. Judicial representatives from 17 countries are also participating in the event.Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant, Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav, Attorney General R Venkataramani and NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava attended the inaugural session.The conference will feature four technical sessions focusing on key environmental and climate-related issues. According to the NGT, the discussions will examine major challenges facing the world, identify gaps in policy-making and implementation, and explore ways to strengthen institutional cooperation.

The event also aims to facilitate the exchange of successful environmental practices and strengthen environmental justice amid growing challenges linked to climate change, development and governance.

President Droupadi Murmu will attend the valedictory session on Sunday. Union minister Manohar Lal, Supreme Court judge Justice PS Narasimha, NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta are also scheduled to attend the concluding session.The conference is expected to work towards developing a roadmap for addressing present and future environmental and climate challenges.
