PLM admits only 3,000 of 70,000 applicants for SY 2026-2027

MANILA, Philippines — The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) has admitted only 3,000 of more than 70,000 applicants for academic year 2026-2027, its president said Monday.

Lawyer Domingo Reyes Jr., president of PLM, said during the flag-raising ceremony at Manila City Hall that while 43,000 applicants were able to take the entrance exam, only 3,000 were accepted “because we can no longer accommodate” more students.

Reyes said online applications for the next school year will close on Wednesday, Sept. 30, and that 65,000 individuals have already submitted applications.

“We apologize, we cannot admit everyone who wants to have an education at PLM,” he said in Filipino.

He, however, said PLM is set to expand its facilities through a new Health Sciences Building, which he said could accommodate more students once completed.

“Especially once our new Health Sciences Building is constructed … it will help increase enrollment numbers,” Reyes said in Filipino.

For Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, PLM’s College of Health Allied Sciences is now being constructed, with 132 piles already completed out of a total of 340.

He said the local government is looking for ways to create room for more students within the university’s existing complex.

Reyes said PLM received a total subsidy of P125 million. /mcm
