Gokulam Kerala began its campaign at home with a hard-fought win. It won its first away fixture too, the hard way.

The men of Gokulam Kerala have reasons to be pleased in the very early days of this season’s Indian Football League. The two-time champion defeated Rajasthan United 1-0 at Vidhyadhar Nagar Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday.

With six points, Gokulam has also moved to the top of the table. Its win against Rajasthan was secured by Crislan da Silva, who scored in the 68th minute.

Right from the start, both Gokulam and Rajasthan went on the offensive. In fact, within the first five minutes, there were scoring opportunities at either end. More chances came, but the wait for a goal would prove to be long.

It eventually came in the second half, as Crislan did well to make use of the chance that came his way. Rajasthan defender Adri Castellano failed to clear the long ball, and neither could Novin Gurung avert the danger. Crislan did well to put the ball above the head of goalkeeper Amrit Gope.

For Novin, the day would get worse: he had to leave the field with a red card in the 78th minute for bringing Crislan down near the penalty area.

The result:

Rajasthan United 0 lost to Gokulam Kerala 1 (Crislan da Silva 68).
