Translate

Malaysian badminton doubles pairs in all categories put up an impressive display at the French Open, with seven of them making it to the second round of the World Tour Super 750 championships.

In the women’s doubles category, newly crowned Denmark Open champions Pearly Tan-M Thinaah had little difficulty beating Turkish pair Bengisu Ercetin-Nazlican Inci 21-11, 21-15.

Carmen Ting-Ong Xin Yee meanwhile beat home pair Margot Lambert-Camille Pognante 21-11, 21-12. Both Malaysian pairs took just 37 minutes to dispose of their rivals at the Arena Grand Paris early this morning.

Malaysia is assured of a quarter-final spot in the women’s doubles as Pearly-Thinaah will face Carmen-Xin Yee in their second-round clash today.

Also through to the second round are national mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing, who beat China’s Gao Jia Xuan-Wu Meng Ying 14-21, 21-15, 21-15 in 46 minutes.

Pang Ron-Pei Jing will take on Taiwanese duo Liu Kuang Heng-Hsu Yin Hui next.

World No 4 men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik overpowered their lower-ranked Chinese rivals He Ji Teng-Ren Xiang Yu in 37 minutes to win 21-15, 21-19.

In the last-16, they will take on Thailand’s Peeratchai Sukphun-Pakkapon Teeraratsakul, who were stretched to three games by Malaysian pair Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong before prevailing 19-21, 21-10, 21-19 in a match lasting 56 minutes.

Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun made amends for their first-round exit at the Denmark Open last week, beating Japanese pair Kakeru Kumagai-Hiroki Nishi 18-21, 21-15, 21-17 in 55 minutes.

They will meet another Japanese pair, Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi, in the second round.

Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and Aaron Tai-Yap Roy King booked their second-round spots after winning their opening games on Tuesday. Sze Fei-Izzuddin will take on Danish pair Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard, while new pair Aaron-Roy King will clash with South Korea’s world No 1 Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae.

None of Malaysia’s singles players made it through to the second round.
