The Gujarat Giants management appears to be following the adage, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’, with its strategy ahead of the Women’s Premier League 2027 mini-auction. At least, head coach Michael Klinger seems to be taking that approach.

The Australian recently indicated that the franchise would most likely enter the auction looking for players who could add depth to an already settled squad.

A major overhaul ahead of the WPL 2026 auction, when the Giants retained just two players, helped the team reach the Playoffs for the second consecutive season, although it once again fell short of a place in the final. This time, the franchise has released just four players.

Possible auction targets: With a largely settled playing XI, the Giants could look at an overseas player such as Sophie Molineux or Grace Harris to fill their remaining overseas slot.

To add more firepower to the lower order, the franchise could also consider South African power-hitters such as Annerie Dercksen and Kayla Reyneke.
