What happened in the women's 10m air rifle qualification?

Elavenil participated in the second relay. Despite shooting a modest 104.8 in the opening series, she gathered herself before registering a massive 106.2 in the second series, the highest of her six series. She went on to get two more 106s and as many 105s. Her total score of 634.2 was enough to see her finish third. Ban Hyojin of Korea and China’s Wang Zifei took the top two spots.

Sonam Maskar and Shambhavi Kshirshagar, the other two Indians in the mix, had disappointing outings. While Sonam finished 19th with 630.5, Shambhavi finished further below at 32nd with 629.7.

    Hola!

The shooting World Championship is finally underway in Doha, kicking off a new Olympic cycle for the sport.

This is the first time Indian athletes have a chance to bag LA28 berths with three quota places on offer for each Olympic event.

Thus far, Elavenil Valarivan has come the closest to winning one in the ISSF event, having qualified for the women’s 10m air rifle final, scheduled to start at 9pm IST.

Earlier, the men’s team was wiped out after a dismal show. Of the three shooters in contention, Parth Mane had the best showing with 630.3 and a 16th-place finish.
