SAPS arrest ‘shutdown Moses Mabhida Stadium’ ringleader

KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a man who threatened to shut down Moses Mabhida Stadium ahead of Saturday’s MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
The suspect allegedly threatened that he and his followers would disrupt the match, prompting police to intervene ahead of the clash.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the man had gathered a group of people at King Dinizulu Park in Durban with the intention of staging a march.
However, those who had gathered with him reportedly fled the scene.
Police issue warning over threats
SAPS warned that anyone threatening public stability will face the consequences of their actions in accordance with the law.
“Police are reiterating that anyone who threatens to cause instability will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the police service said.
Police have not provided further details about the suspect or indicated whether additional arrests could follow.
The incident raised security concerns ahead of the final at Moses Mabhida Stadium, with authorities reiterating their commitment to maintaining law and order.
Ultimately the match went ahead uninterrupted with Mamelodi Sundowns winning 2-0.
