Improved weather forecast over NCR, other Luzon areas on Thursday

MANILA, Philippines — After days of experiencing heavy rains due to the southwest monsoon or habagat, the state weather bureau on Wednesday said that weather in Metro Manila and other areas of Luzon may improve on Thursday.
This information is based on the 11 a.m. weather forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said that rains due to the habagat will be less frequent over Metro Manila, Abra, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas and Oriental Mindoro.

“If we base on the 24-hour rainfall forecast, the next 24 hours are still crucial. There are still chances of rain later until early Thursday morning,” Estareja said.
According to the 24-hour rainfall forecast, the affected areas will experience 50 to 100 millimeters (mm) of rainfall from Wednesday to Thursday noon.
On the other hand, 100 to 200 mm of rainfall is forecast to prevail over Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan and Occidental Mindoro within the same period.
“On Thursday noon onwards, Neneng will move farther and may weaken in the afternoon or evening. That’s why there may be improved weather,” Benison explained.

He also said that generally cloudy skies with chances of sudden light rains are forecast from Thursday until Saturday as the habagat continues to prevail over the western section of Luzon.
Tropical Depression Neneng
Meanwhile, Pagasa said that Tropical Depression Neneng was last estimated 530 kilometers east-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes as of 10 a.m.
It maintained its strength as it was still carrying maximum wind speed of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
Estareja then noted that the tropical depression will move generally northwestward for the next 24 hours.
He added that it may make landfall or close approach over Northern Taiwan on Thursday.
Neneng will also remain as a tropical depression until it exits the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday.
