CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — As many as 41,658 families, or 190,990 residents in 236 barangays of the provinces of Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon and Palawan have been affected by the monsoon and tropical depression Neneng.This was the status report as of 3 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in MIMAROPA. 

The renewed rains and flooding also prompted more residents to seek safer ground.

The report said 40 families, or 127 individuals, were staying in four evacuation centers, while 80 families, or 286 individuals, were temporarily staying with relatives, friends, or other acquaintances.

A total of 299 houses were damaged, including 27 destroyed and 272 partially damaged.

The DSWD said it still has P171.07 million in available funds and food resources for disaster response. This includes P2.96 million in Quick Response Fund and P168.10 million worth of food and other items.

The agency said it continues to conduct assessment and validation of affected communities to determine the immediate needs of families and ensure that appropriate assistance is delivered.

The DSWD is also coordinating with local government units to step up relief and other response operations in areas affected by the continuing rains and flooding./coa
