Police probe viral video of suspected cable theft at Kampung Pandan

Translate

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a viral video showing a man suspected of stealing cables at the Kampung Pandan roundabout here.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Assistant Commissioner Annas Sulaiman said police lodged a report following the circulation of the clip on Threads.

"Wangsa Maju district police headquarters lodged a police report regarding the post on Threads.

"The case is being investigated under Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said in a brief statement today.

The section provides penalties for tampering with, altering, removing, destroying or damaging network facilities or any part thereof.

Those convicted face a maximum fine of RM500,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.

Earlier, Threads user @hamzahazman23 posted a video at 4.52pm yesterday showing a man pulling what appeared to be cables near the traffic lights beneath the Kampung Pandan roundabout flyover.

The man was seen acting openly as vehicles passed through the area.

At 5.19pm, the same user posted an update claiming the cables at the location had been cut.

The posts drew the attention of social media users, who questioned the man's actions in heavy traffic.
