Amelia Dimoldenberg’s Hit YouTube Series ‘Chicken Shop Date’ To End After 12-Year Run

Amelia Dimoldenberg, the creator behind Chicken Shop Date, has announced that she is bringing the hit YouTube interview series to a close after a “final few dates”.

The online creator, who began the series as a column at the age of 17 and has since interviewed talent such as Billie Eilish, Andrew Garfield and Paul McCartney, made the announcement on Thursday on her Instagram account.

“When I was 17, I thought that I might meet the love of my life on a date in a chicken shop,” she said. “Since then, I’ve spent my entire twenties sat across from the most incredible people, people I’d always dreamt of meeting. All of them charmed me (some more than others), and I definitely charmed them.

“To me, the show is my very own romcom, and I have loved being able to share it with you. I am so grateful to everyone who has followed me on this journey and found a bit of joy in these episodes. I never thought I’d end Chicken Shop Date. I thought maybe it would be a part of my life forever, and in some way it always will, but I feel like it’s now time to move on from this adventure and onto the next one.”

Chicken Shop Date sees Dimoldenberg ask guests a series of questions in a flirty, and often awkward way, while on a date in a fried chicken restaurant. While the brand initially started off as a column in a youth-run magazine, Dimoldenberg parlayed the idea into a digital series which has been increasingly used by film marketing teams as part of the press cycle for film promotion.

In recent years, the show, which Dimoldenberg has been producing under her Dimz Inc. label, has attracted top tier actors such as Garfield, Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba as well as Paul Mescal, Harris Dickenson, Louis Theroux and Jack Harlow.

Dimoldenberg’s YouTube channel has more than 3.4 million subscribers. Since 2022, the series’ social following increased from 830,000 to 4.4 million and on YouTube, the series has driven around one billion views across its run.

According to a statement, the final Chicken Shop Date series will have “a last line-up of eclectic guests joining Amelia in the chicken shop before she closes this chapter.”

Last week, at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Dimoldenberg said that she is developing a young adult drama series for the BBC, which she dubbed as “my version of Skins.” She is also developing an upcoming romantic comedy film with Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures.
