Man found dead after being swept away by river current in Zambales

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — A man who was swept away by a strong river current while crossing a river in Sta. Cruz, Zambales, was found dead, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Saturday, Aug. 15.

The victim was identified as Clark Aaron Domelon dela Cruz, who reportedly experienced severe cramps while crossing the river between Barangays Lipay and Biay in Sta. Cruz on Wednesday.

He was swept away by the strong current and reported missing.

The Coast Guard Substation Sta. Cruz, together with other concerned agencies, conducted search and retrieval operations.

At 8:47 a.m. on Thursday, Coast Guard personnel aboard an unnamed motor banca proceeded to the victim’s last known location and conducted a systematic surface search covering the projected drift area.

The victim’s body was later spotted floating in the waters off Barangay Lipay, about 400 to 500 meters from the shoreline, between the river and the sea.

The remains were identified by the victim’s relative before being brought ashore.

At 2:40 p.m., the remains were turned over to the Sta. Cruz Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for transport to Sta. Cruz Hospital.

An attending physician conducted a medico-legal examination and declared dela Cruz dead on arrival. /das
