Japan lead Asian Games standings, Malaysia still medalless as of 12pm

KUALA LUMPUR: Hosts Japan surged to the top of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games medal standings as of 12pm after claiming two gold medals on the opening morning, while Malaysia remained without a medal.
Japan lead with two gold and two bronze medals, ahead of China with one gold, four silver and one bronze.
Japan's first gold came through Takumi Hojo in the men's individual triathlon before their karate squad added another title.
Malaysia's only medal prospect, wushu exponent Danish Aizad, finished joint-seventh in the men's Changquan final after scoring 9.700 points.
He was just 0.020 points outside the bronze-medal position, with Indonesia's Seraf Naro Siregar taking third on 9.720.
As of 12pm, Malaysia are empty-handed as five Asean rivals get on the board.
Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam collected two bronzes each, while Myanmar and the Philippines had one bronze apiece.
Mandy Cebelle Chen will compete in the women's Taijiquan-Taijijian combined event in afternoon after scoring 9.706 points in the Taijiquan routine to sit joint-fifth.
The Taijijian routine is scheduled for 1.30pm Malaysian time.
