Liza Soberano Has a Brutal Request for the Next 'Final Destination' Movie

Acting was never at the forefront of Liza Soberano’s mind as a child growing up. Not at first, at least. As a dual US-Filipino citizen, she discovered her passion for screen acting as a way to expand her knowledge of her Filipino culture, landing a recurring role on the drama series Mara Clara before breaking into Hollywood with a part she all but manifested in 2024’s Lisa Frankenstein, opposite Kathryn Newton. Most recently, Soberano joined the DreamWorks Animation family as the voice of Raissa in Forgotten Island, but in her Collider Ladies Night conversation with Perri Nemiroff, the actress admits she’s looking to make edgier moves in the future — “I want to die on the screen!”
In Forgotten Island, best friends Raissa and Jo (voiced by Grammy Award-winning artist H.E.R.) find themselves at a crossroads as they teeter on the edge of adulthood. When the pair stumble into a magical world, they come face to face with some of the Philippines’ most mystical and formidable creatures of lore on a mission to save their memories from being forgotten forever.
Though Forgotten Island’s fearsome Manananggal (Lea Salonga) is nothing to scoff at, Soberano revealed a side of herself and the new kinds of horrors she hopes to face that her fans may not expect while talking with Nemiroff.
Liza Soberano Has a Very Specific Request for 'Final Destination'
The Mara Clara star is ready for a new kind of close-up.

During a round of "Dicey Questions" on Collider’s Ladies Night, Nemiroff asked Soberano her number-one favorite question: What’s your favorite scary movie? Instead of just one go-to, Soberano explained that while growing up, she and her family connected through horror movies. “I think my mom was a little punk rock,” she laughed, “so we were introduced to it pretty young.”
Child’s Play initially opened the door to Soberano’s fascination with the macabre, but it’s the 2000s Final Destination franchise that she can vividly imagine herself stepping into.
"I would love to be in one. I always say this, and knock on wood, I've always wanted to die on screen. I've never, like, for real died on screen. I had a show in the Philippines where they killed me three times but brought me back to life three times, so I haven't officially died yet."
Not only does Soberano profess her love for the entire franchise, but she tells Nemiroff she has one very specific condition, should she join the Final Destination family:
"I just want the most gruesome death where you can't even recognize my face anymore in a horror film."
Could Liza Soberano Be the Star of the Next Final Destination?
"I want to do something new."
Luckily for Soberano, Final Destination got a much-needed reboot just last year with its most successful sequel to date, Final Destination Bloodlines. The latest installment, from directing duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein (Freaks), reignited audiences' thirst for blood, and a seventh film has since been greenlit, slated for a 2028 release.
Last year, New Line Cinema tapped Belgian filmmaker Michiel Blanchart to direct, but there's yet to be any word on casting. For Soberano, the horror series could be the perfect way to expand her career, aligning perfectly with the kind of projects she's looking to tackle. When talking with Nemiroff about the opportunities Lisa Frankenstein offered her, it wasn't just the chance to work with Diablo Cody, Newton, and Cole Sprouse ("He was my childhood crush apparently — I didn't know this!"), but a way to break into new genres.
"I want to do something new, completely different from anything I've ever done, like a horror, but it needs to have an element of rom-com to it, because my current audience knows me as a rom-com queen, and so I don't want to alienate them. And then Lisa Frankenstein came along, and I was reading the script before the audition, and I was like, 'Wait, this is crazy. Why is this actually everything I said I wanted?' It was so perfect."
With a standout performance in a horror comedy under her belt, it's undeniable: Liza Soberano is ready to make the leap to all-out horror.
